KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama)-- There are currently 15,000 places in vocational colleges for the youths to enrol to prepare them for the employment market, Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam said Wednesday.

He said the government allocated RM300 million to 300 private colleges, which were capable of accommodating up to 30,000 students, to provide courses in 80 fields for the youths under the Placement and Training Programme.

"The programme, introduced last May to reduce the unemployment rate as well as overcome shortage of skilled workers, should be fully utilised by the unemployed graduates, school leavers and also those who were laid off," he told reporters after visiting the CQ-Tec College here.

Subramaniam said those who enrolled for the programme would be given a monthly allowance of between RM500 and RM800.

Those interested could register on line at www.jobsmalaysia.gov.my or at any of the 85 Manpower Department branch offices nationwide, he added. -- BERNAMA
