SIBU, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat's (Mara) Sarawak branch plans to buy more shoplots in the state for the purpose of setting up more training centres, or Pusat Giat Mara, under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Its director, Razali Mamat, said this was in line with its objective to produce more Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

"We have 22 such centres now. Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, our target is to produce 6,000 entrepreneurs nationwide," he said at the launch of Ramadan bazaar here on Friday.

He said from January to July this year, Mara had disbursed RM5 million in business loans to 237 entrepreneurs.

Razali said the entrepreneurs should venture into new areas like rearing, goats, eel and earthworm.

"These businesses, which are lucrative for entrepreneurs in Peninsular Malaysia, are comparatively new here," he said.

He said the locals still needed more exposure and better networking in order to do just as well as their peninsula counterparts.

He said Mara owned 24 buildings in the state which provided 333 lots for rent.

"The buildings are located in strategic urban locations so as to give the entrepreneurs the opportunities to do well in their businesses.

"Mara is offering them good rental rates as it wanted to see them progress and be successful," he said.

Razali said the entrepreneurs should also undertake regular promotions of their products in order to increase sales.

On the Ramadan bazaar, he said, Mara has allocated RM50,000 to hold them here, Kuching and Limbang this year. -- BERNAMA
