A(H1N1): No new deaths, 135 new ILI cases

KUALA LUMPUR: No new deaths from Influenza A(H1N1) were recorded Friday and the total of such fatalities in the country so far remains at 77.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said 135 new cases with influenza-like illness (ILI) were warded in hospitals nationwide while 108 were discharged, leaving the total at 704.

Of the total ILI patients still under treatment, 184 or 26% were confirmed A(H1N1) cases.

Twenty-one patients or 11% were in intensive care, he said, adding that there were no new admissions to the intensive care units while four cases were discharged Friday.

Nineteen of the patients in intensive care had risk factors -- seven were children under five, three had chronic diseases, five had obesity problems, three had chronic respiratory diseases and one was a senior citizen above 65 years old, he said in a statement here Friday.- The Star
