KUALA LUMPUR: The New Economic Model (NEM), to be unveiled at the end of the month, is an instrument that can break the racial barrier, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that while the NEM was aimed at creating a better future for the country, it would also obliterate prejudices among races.
“The NEM is not just an economic model but is also an instrument that will ensure every single Malaysian is given an equal role and opportunities to polish their potential so that we can compete fairly.
“When everyone is given the assurance that they can compete fairly in the economic sector, the real racial harmony will prevail and that is one of the model’s targets,” Muhyiddin said at the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Assembly Hall’s 1Malaysia dinner here last night.
“I wish to call upon everyone to step forward and support the Government in implementing the plan.”
He also witnessed the oath-taking ceremony of the Hall’s newly appointed committee members led by its president Liew Kon Seng. - The Star
