KOTA BAHARU, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- The Federal Government has approved RM140 million to build two permanent campuses for Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).

One will be in Bachok and the other, Jeli.

UMK Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Zainal Mohamed said with the allocation, the campuses could be scheduled for completion by the end of next year.

"A total of RM100 million is approved for UMK's main campus in Bachok, and RM40 million for its second campus in Jeli," he told reporters here on Wednesday.

With the establishment of UMK, Zainal said there would be more opportunities for education, employment and business to be initiated by people in the East Coast.

"The university's physical foundation could accelerate development within the area because with high volume of students and lecturers, there would thus, be opportunities for businesses," he said.

Zainal said there were 1,253 students pursuing their studies at the university this year. -- BERNAMA
