KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will continue with its effort to improve the welfare of over 100,000 policemen in the country, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said these included the allocation of RM476mil under the Ninth Malaysia Plan to upgrade staff quarters for police personnel and to upgrade police stations and facilities nationwide.

He said policemen currently housed in two-room quarters would get to live in bigger three-room units.

“So far, 13 projects to upgrade and modify housing complexes for policemen are being carried out nationwide under the plan,” he said in his speech at the Ex-Policemen’s Patriotic Day celebration at PWTC last night.

“The projects involve 473 units for the benefit of 986 families. This initiative will be carried out nationwide in stages.”

Hishammuddin also said he had directed the ministry to identify new approaches that could improve the working conditions of police personnel at police stations.

“Among them will be to improve Internet connection and reduce waste of space in police stations due to the storage of investigation-related items such as cars, motorcycles and slot machines.

“This is to enable policemen to work in police stations that are not only safe but also comfortable,” he added. - The Star.
